You know what pisses me off? Well, there are many things. But, I’m thinking about one thing in particular. Warning: Pretty serious bitching ahead.
I just deleted a comment on the post below. Some anti-meat preacher sent me a link to a video, telling me that I might want to know where my meat comes from. Oh, please. Does this guy really think that people who eat meat don’t know where it comes from? Does he think that I don’t know that most slaughter houses are based on efficiency only, with no regard for the animal or how it lives and dies? It ain’t magic. People are working to turn a profit. A lot of the time, it’s pretty ugly. I don’t think that this is the case 100% of the time. I mean, Dominion Farm and others do their best to make a good life for their animals. EatGreenDFW gives these great farmers and ranchers a place to sell their products. How does this guy know where I shop or what kind of meat I buy? And who is he to go around preaching to people who he doesn’t even know?
I don’t like preaching. What I believe is my business. And so is what I choose to eat. I don’t tell people who have other eating habits than mine that they’re wrong or missing out. It’s none of my business what other people eat. I admire a person for picking a plan and sticking to it, even if it is something I would never choose to do myself. But, frankly, I’m more worried about people starving than whether people eat veal, foix gras or freaking meatloaf.
There is a lot of injustice and ugliness in this world that we could all stand up against. I say go for it. But, don’t come knocking on my door to preach. I’ve already heard it. And if you think you’ve got something new to tell me, then wait until I ask. And if I don’t believe what you believe… too damned bad.
Amen, sister!
I love this. And this from, as you know, a long time vegetarian who knows it all and now chooses to eat meat! Well said!
Good for you Margie! It’s so one’s business what you make in your own kitchen!
Margie, this proves more than ever that you are a true Texas gal. No one can tell you what to do or think. You’ve made up your mind about this issue, and you will keep your beliefs until you and only you choose to change them again. Keep on truckin’!
you should do like PerezHilton, post his email address and let us all send him the finger or our reason we love and choose to eat MEAT!!!
Meat is good. I gave it up for a period of time (aka 3 weeks) and I was ready to add it back into my diet. All I have to say is “more meat please.”
You go, Margie. People obviously have to make up their own minds as to how they’re going to eat, live, etc… and one video is not going to change that. Stick to your guns, girl!
Holler, girl. Militancy in any form just infuriates me. Everyone has a right to an opinion and as much politicking as they want to do in their personal life. Everyone is also free to share their opinions. However, when that ‘sharing’ walks the line between harsh judgement and condescension, I lose all patience. Eat what you eat, pray how you pray, wear what you wear – all we can do is live life the best we can in ways that make sense to us on a personal level.
First time on your site, and all I can say is I’m surrounded by enough angry and self-righteous people in the world that I can do without it while enjoying a blog on food in Dallas. Your tone is rather off-putting. I am sure you will delete this comment, too, but I do not intend for me comment to anger you, just to let you know that this reader was surprised to find a tirade in an otherwise interesting blog. Opinions are opinions, as you and your cheerleaders point out. If you invite comments, then your readers’ comments are also offered in the same vein: as opinions. I guess the dilemma is whether the blog is a format that invites discussion, or is it more akin to standing on your cornflakes box and yelling into the wind.
cornflake box?
