Eating In Dallas

The 4th

July 3, 2009 · 6 Comments

So, what does everyone have going for the holiday weekend?  We have a pool party one day.  BBQ with our friends the Smiths the next day.  The 4th is anniversary of when Hubbard and I first started dating about 100 years ago.  Actually, it’ll be 21 years, I believe.  We’ll have to do something to celebrate that.  What are you guys up to?  Fireworks?  Grilling?  Any 4th of July traditions?

We usually try to see fireworks somewhere, but it’s too hot this year, so we’re having a party at my mother-in-laws instead. (It will probably be better than it sounds; when she and my wife and her sister get a few drinks in them, they like to crank up the r and b, blues, and rock music channels to full volume and dance the night away! I do my best to keep up!!)

We are going to the in-laws for a barbequeue and taking my pup to play with hers, should be fun. Then smoking a brisket on Sunday, which I will be looking at your Brisket post for ideas!

It’s all about hot dogs and brats for us on the 4th. We’re keeping it low key and saving ourselves for Sunday dinner the following weekend. We’re also going to see Public Enemy. I love me some Johnny Depp!

Those Sunday dinners can get pretty crazy. I always take off that next Monday in advance. It’s that crazy or maybe it’s too much red wine. Either way.

We went boating on Narragansett Bay – clamming, swimming and fishing – everybody caught a flounder – all 8 of us! Than we fired up the grill at the marinia and had Minhaj’s smoked ribs, clams on the grill and Patty had made a flag cheesecake and cucumber sald both adapted from the Texas Experience Cookbook -then we all watched the fireworks that ring the Bay. Today – more of the same with clam chowder and flounder for dinner.
