So, we’re hungry. We toss around a few ideas and Hub says, “Come with me and we’ll go get some tacos at Mr. Piquin.”
When I walked in I was very impressed by how cute it is inside. The decor is really nice for such a casual place. It used to be a sandwich shop. The second thing that catches my eye was a sign that says “12 Tacos $10″. Jeez, are you kidding? Nope, it’s right next to the sign that says “25 Tacos $20″. Wow. We go for the 12 tacos. Seems like a lot. But, they’re small tacos, we are thinking. There are several choices of meats. We pick the beef fajita and pastor (pork). We notice a big goblet of beer on one of the tables. Do they serve beer? No, but you can bring your own or they’ll give you a complimentary beer if you’re eating in the restaurant. Decision made. We’re eating in. Here’s what we get first…

The soup is complimentary. A nice broth with lots of flavor and shell pasta makes a great appetizer. That and all the other stuff you’re getting for free!

Notice that beer. Not too tiny, huh? The piquin salsa on the right had a little more heat. They were both very tasty and obviously made in-house. In fact, the owner told us that all of the recipes are her family favorites. I’m really anxious to try the chile relleno now. She said the chimichanga was her personal favorite. So, we’re chatting with the owner and out come the tacos…

Now I’m really freaking out. Look at all this… $10? Are you kidding me? The corn tortillas are handmade. What more could you ask for? How about really nice people? Everyone was so pleasant and friendly. For anyone who might have been put off by the cashier not speaking English (mentioned in my last write up on breakfast tacos), everyone was on board with the English this night. Even the signs that told about the taco specials were in Spanish and English. Honestly, I’m not worried about whether people in a Mexican restaurant speak English and I’m sure most of you aren’t either. We had a very pleasant meal, took home leftovers and can’t wait to go back. Mr. Piquin is open all day long and very accomodating. I can’t imagine them refusing a reasonable request. Mr. Piquin wants you!

Those tacos are so cute and tiny yet SO BIG! I love the BYOB concept.
Holy shit I wish there was one of those in these parts, those tacos look amazing!
What a great find and a steal for the food!
VIVA LA RAZA
NICE!!! I used to eat there all the time when it was Great American Hero. Looks like we need to make a trip to Mr. Piquin ASAP. Love me some cheap eats.
WOW. I think I need to make a trip to Mr. P’s. And by the way, that soup looks JUST like the complimentary soup they usedt o serve at Casa Blanca. I wonder if it’s a traditional thing…
had it, loved it and going back for more!!!! viva mr. piquin
Stopped in yesterday for a takeout order and while we waited they served us the soup and chips and salsa. The owner even offered us beers while we waited! Awesome food, awesome service – can’t wait to go back
I love their nachos. My step dad is the owner and he’s always working to make the restaurant better.
