No Tex-Mex?

I still can’t get over the fact that Leslie Brenner (our food critic for Dallas Morning News) told Superbowl visitors in Dallas to skip having Tex-Mex while they’re here.

I just can’t get over that.

  1. As someone who came to Dallas from the Northeast, I have to agree with you. Dallas might not have the best Tex-Mex in Texas, but it has far better Tex-Mex than you’ll find in most of the rest of the country.

  2. Agree completely. I can take issue with several reviews/comments she has made about the Dallas dining scene/restaurants. Her reviews of several places in Dallas, particularly fine dining establishments, have completely baffled me. It seem she believes Dallas is a wasteland as far as food is concerned.

  3. I think it’s weird because regardless of whether or not we have the Best Tex-Mex Ever In The World, we have better Tex-Mex than Pennsylvania or Wisconsin! It’s like saying that you can only get a good cheesesteak in Philly and not in Pittsburgh. What if I’m not going to Philly? My only option here is pretty much Texadelphia and I find it hard to believe that a non-Philly city in Pennsylvania can’t beat that, even if it’s not The Best Ever.

I feel that restaurant reviewers get so caught up in the concept of “best” that they forget that not everyone is a super foodie who only wants to eat at the ne plus ultra experience and is willing to travel an hour or two to get there rather than eating at the plenty good place that’s five minutes away. Sure, I want to know where the “best” is, but if I’m going to a city that offers a regional cuisine, then the last thing I want to hear is someone telling me “Oh, you can’t get good BBQ and Tex-Mex in Dallas.” I call shenanigans.

I also want to know the name and location of the place that does have the best Tex-Mex.

  4. AGREED! Was kind of gobsmacked about that, myself.
